Singularity University program in the U.S. helps entrepreneurs to seek solutions to the most complex problems facing humanity
Last summer Theodore Panaiotov decided to leave for three months business in the field of IT training and go to the Research Park at NASA's Silicon Valley, California. There within 10 weeks, he trained under the program Graduate Studies Program at Singularity University and is working on an idea that could change the lives of at least 1 billion people. Thanks to the program, he trained in the latest technologies that are able to change the face of the world in the coming years. And besides applying them in their project in the field of education.
Theodore is the fifth class of the Graduate Studies Program (GSP). In 2014 it will be held for the sixth consecutive year. The idea of the program is to collect 80 successful leaders and entrepreneurs from around the world to form teams and try through innovative technologies to overcome one of the biggest challenges facing humanity. The areas in which the teams will work in 2014, education, energy, environment, food and water, health, poverty and security. This year the program will be held from June 14 to August 24 and the deadline for applications is January 15.
An extraordinary university
Singularity University is not a traditional university, which can learn a bachelor's or master's degree. "Singularity University is an educational institution that monitors all exponentially developing technologies and educate the leaders of tomorrow," said Theodore. For the fifth consecutive year in the program undergo leaders, scholars and entrepreneurs during her work in the areas of biotechnology and bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology and others.
Theodore says that GSP program consists of 5 weeks of training in the form of lectures and seminars, and another 5 weeks during which the already established teams develop their projects. Bulgarian entrepreneurs work in a team of 6 people from 5 countries. They have developed a prototype of an educational system that adapts itself to the needs of the learner or the organization that commissioned it. Its advantage is that it can be built much more cheaply and quickly (1-2 days) than the existing online education platforms, says Theodore.
The objective of the GSP is designed to continue to develop and after the program. One option is for companies to join the accelerator of Singularity University - SU Labs.
Be the leader of the future
Participants in the program come from all over the world and last year they were from 38 countries. Of all the 80 people, 18 were won funding to go into the valley (see box). It cost 30 thousand dollars. Participants are very different, but all are entrepreneurs and leaders in their fields - science, technology or medicine. Theodore says that the oldest player in his class was 59 years old, and the youngest - 22.
